5 Things to Know About the Precious Moments Credit Card

In the somewhat recent history of collectible objects, Precious Moments walked so Beanie Babies, Funko Pops and Squishmallows could run. The porcelain figurines feature child-like characters celebrating holidays and life events, or enjoying various seasonal activities like surfing or ice fishing.

A curio cabinet won’t fit in your wallet, but the Precious Moments Visa Signature Rewards Credit Card, issued by Commerce Bank, is a way to show your devotion wherever you go. It earns cash-back rewards, and new cardholders will get a modest coupon toward a Precious Moments purchase. But it doesn’t offer much else when it comes to ongoing discounts on Precious Moments merchandise.

Here are five things to know about the Precious Moments Visa Signature Rewards Credit Card.

1. There’s no annual fee, and a low-interest-rate promotion

The Precious Moments Visa Signature Rewards Credit Card has a $0 annual fee, leaving more room in your budget to add a few figurines to your collection each year. And the interest rate is 1.99% APR for the first six months.

If you carry a balance on this card after that point, though, the APR can be quite high. As of this writing, it ranges from 20.49% to 30.49% APR. And if you miss a payment by more than 60 days, you’ll be charged a penalty APR of 32.49% until you make six consecutive on-time payments.

2. The welcome offer won’t get you far

New cardholders will get a $10 online gift code to use on the Precious Moments website, which isn’t enough to fully cover the cost of most figurines. So, at best, it’s a bit of a discount off one purchase.

3. Earn up to 3% cash back … but not at Precious Moments

The Precious Moments Visa Signature Rewards Credit Card earns:

  • 3% cash back on eligible streaming, cable and ridesharing services.

  • 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants.

  • 1% cash back on all other purchases.

You’ll note that there are no bonus rewards for using the Precious Moments credit card on actual spending with Precious Moments, which is odd for a co-branded card. But those are still pretty decent rewards on certain everyday spending.

Still, you can likely do better. For example, the Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card earns 3% cash back on dining, entertainment, groceries and streaming services, and it has a $0 annual fee. And the $0-annual-fee Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express earns 3% cash back at U.S. supermarkets, on U.S. online retail purchases (like, say, Precious Moments figurines?) and at U.S. gas stations. Note that there’s a $6,000 spending cap per year to earn 3% back in each categories — you’ll earn 1% back after that. Terms apply.

4. Redeem rewards in various ways

Redeem rewards for travel, gift cards, merchandise, or cash back in the form of a statement credit or deposit to a checking or savings account. You can also redeem them at participating gas stations for fuel purchases, or for discounts on in-store purchases at participating retailers.

5. Points eventually expire

Unredeemed rewards expire five years from the calendar quarter in which they were earned. That’s a long time horizon, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re sitting on unused points.
