RSHP designs chain of residential towers for Jumeirah waterfront

British studio RSHP has revealed plans for Peninsula Dubai, a group of 10 interconnected buildings containing a hotel and residences overlooking the water in Jumeirah, Dubai.

The chain of buildings will be united by angular forms finished with screens and louvres and arranged by RSHP to create shaded public spaces along the waterfront.

Six low-lying buildings will sit at the centre of the complex, bookended by two pairs of taller towers. The heights of the buildings are yet to be disclosed.

“This project is a celebration of Dubai’s bold vision and connection to its waterfront heritage,” said design director Richard Paul.

“Our goal was to design a dynamic and sustainable development where residents and visitors alike can thrive in harmony with the city’s natural beauty and views across the marina.”

Peninsula Dubai is being built on the site of a new marina between the Dubai Canal and the Arabian Gulf. Once complete, it will contain a five-star hotel, 59 serviced apartments and 182 luxury residential apartments.

Glazed restaurants will line the ground floor, while a lower level will hold a shopping area for residents and guests that opens to a landscaped public realm.

The 26,547-square-metre hotel will span three of the central buildings, connected via a series of glazed bridges. A restaurant, sky bar and infinity pool will be held at the hotel’s roof level.

The four residential towers that flank Peninsula Dubai will be crowned with penthouses. Raised on stilts, each penthouse will be wrapped in glazing and complete with private pools and terraces offering unrestricted views.

The unveiling of Peninsula Dubai coincides with the studio’s announcement of its Dubai office.

“This expansion reflects our commitment to strengthening our presence in the region and collaborating on transformative projects that shape the future,” senior director at RSHP John McElgunn said.

Other recent projects by RSHP include its design for a 1.7-kilometre-long convention centre in China and a proposal to transform the world’s largest cluster of Victorian gas holders into housing.
