Dundee pitch 'playable' amid weather concerns with second inspection due

Dundee have confirmed Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match at home to Motherwell is set to go ahead after an early pitch inspection.

However, a second check will take place on matchday due to heavy rain expected in the city over the coming 48 hours.

The club had issued a statement earlier responding to reports the game could be moved to another venue, insisting “no decision” had been made.

A cover will now be placed over the surface until Saturday, with the hope it will remain playable despite more rain expected on Friday and Saturday.

The developments come after their match at home to Rangers on March 17 was postponed less than two hours before kick-off – a fourth call-off at Dens Park this season.

Following the game against Motherwell, Dundee host Rangers in that rearranged fixture on Wednesday April 10, live on Sky Sports.

A trip to Aberdeen then follows before the top-flight split, with Dundee currently in the sixth and final top-half spot – a point clear of seventh-placed Hibernian.

In a statement, Dundee said: “Ahead of Saturday’s cinch Premiership fixture against Motherwell at The Scot Foam Stadium, Dundee Football Club can confirm that the pitch is playable.

“A category one referee inspected the pitch on Thursday afternoon and stated the pitch was playable at the time of inspection. This is the result of the hard work put in from the club staff and a range of contractors.

“The club are aware that there is further rain forecast for tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday morning and therefore the full pitch has been covered with rain covers for that period. Due to the weather forecast a precautionary pitch inspection has been scheduled for Saturday morning to ensure the pitch is in the same condition as it currently is.

“We look forward to seeing a large Dundee support out in force on Saturday to get right behind The Dee in this important match.”
