I don’t know about you, but a solid 90% or more of my summer plans this year can be summed up as “immerse myself in a book under a nice tree or something until my husband has to literally drag me back inside.” Thankfully, my local library keeps me supplied with just about any book I could want.
Most libraries let you put books on hold through their online catalogs before they have been published and put into circulation. It’s a good way to keep ahead of the crowd with the popular releases. Not sure where to start? These highly anticipated summer book releases are bound to have long lines once they come out.
If you don’t see them in your library’s online catalog, you can always submit a purchase request (which helps authors a ton, too)! If you’re a library worker, here’s your opportunity to get some of the best of summer reading on shelves before readers come knocking.

Winging it With You by Chip Pons (June 10)
I’ve been ready for this queer rom-com since the moment I saw the cover. It looks like the exact type of fluffy, escapist fun I need right now. I will be inhaling it the second my request from the library comes in.
Winging It With You stars Asher Bennet and Theo Fernandez, two men who agree to pose as a couple to win the televised travel competition called The Epic Trek. But even when the cameras aren’t rolling, the romantic tension feels startlingly real. What if neither wants this vacation to end?

A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna (July 15)
Have you been waiting patiently (but with unbridled enthusiasm) for Sangu Mandanna’s next cozy fantasy since the second you finished The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, too? Put Magical Innkeeping on your holds list now because you know this one is going to end up being what the Libby app calls a “Several Months Wait.”
In it, the once-famous Sera Swan accepts her exile from the witches’ Guild and makes the best of running a magical inn with her great aunt. But when a historian staying at the inn introduces her to an ancient spell that may bring back her magic, Sera throws herself into her last chance at recovery while asking herself what she really wants.

The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (July 15)
If horror is more your speed, keep a lookout for this fresh take on witchcraft and vampiric folklore. But be warned: every horror novel I’ve read by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, I’ve had to finish in a sitting or two at most. You’ll want to clear your schedule.
While working on her thesis, graduate student Minerva becomes fixated on an obscure twentieth-century horror novel called The Vanishing—and its possible ties to her great-grandmother Nana Alba’s childhood.
