It’s March, which means no matter what the Groundhog said, we’re finally at the edge of winter. We’re just days away from the official start of spring (it’s March 20, just FYI, in case you want to start a countdown). And what better way to celebrate the season than picking up some new spring releases? Here are two of the most buzzy upcoming novels that you’ll want to snatch up this spring.
Audition by Katie Kitamura (Riverhead Books, April 8)
Katie Kitamura is another must-read author (Intimacies, anyone? A Separation?) and her latest is particularly intriguing. This is a novel of two stories taking place at once: two people—an accomplished actress and a mysterious younger man—meet up for lunch. But as we see the story unfurl from differing perspectives, perceived roles and expectations are turned on their heads.
Happy Land by Dolen Perkins-Valdez (Berkley, April 8)
Last but certainly not least, here’s a phenomenal new historical fiction novel from the author of Take My Hand. When Nikki reconnects with her estranged grandmother in North Carolina, she discovers a history of her family unlike anything she ever could have imagined. Her great-great-great grandmother was Queen Luella, who ruled the Appalachian lands and helped foster a community of hope and freedom for formerly enslaved people. Now Nikki must protect that same land at all costs.
